The
Society for the Improvement of Conditions for Stray Animals,
we know it as SICSA, are celebrating their 35th anniversary
this year! They began in the Kettering Fire House in 1974
and now have a state-of-the-art facility on Wilmington Pike.
Many of us can still remember visiting SICSA when they were
in the little house which is now part of a fenced green area
at their beautiful facility.
SICSA was founded by a group of women that were concerned
about stray animals in the community. In the last 35 years,
SICSA has placed over 50,000 homeless dogs and cats into
loving homes and have spayed and neutered over 60,000 dogs
and cats for the community.
SICSA also has programs in which their animals serve the
community; pet therapy visits to senior centers, nursing
homes and schools; career training for special education
students at Fairmont High School and a partner with project
Mobility that provides work for the physically handicapped.
SICSA has 340 adult and junior volunteers who provide thousands
of hours of service every year.
SICSA is a private non-profit 501 c(3) pet adoption center
that relies solely on tax-deductible donations from individuals.
They have many fundraising events like the Walk for Strays,
Saturday June 5th at Delco Park, Dog Wash & Paw Painting
at SICSA in July, and their Red Dog Auction at Moraine Country
Club in September to help finance our programs.
SICSA is an integral part of the City of Kettering and we
are happy to be a part of their 35th anniversary celebration.
